Cabin crew is one of the prime roles within the aviation industry, comprising stewardesses (female) and/or flight stewards (male) who are responsible for the comfort, welfare, and safety of passengers on board. They work in teams to ensure passenger comfort during flights and maintain safety protocols during challenging situations. The Indian aviation industry, being the third-largest in the world according to the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), offers tremendous growth opportunities in this sector.
What Do Cabin Crew Do?
Cabin crew members have diverse responsibilities that extend beyond passenger service:
Safety and Security:
- Ensure first-aid kits and emergency equipment are on board and functioning properly
- Guide passengers on how to use emergency equipment
- Supervise seating arrangements and check security belt arrangements
- Keep a close watch on the cabin throughout the flight
- Follow all established regulations and procedures
Passenger Service:
- Welcome passengers during boarding and check tickets
- Serve refreshments and food during the journey
- Make passengers comfortable on the flight
- Handle passenger queries and concerns
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanour
Administrative Duties:
- Make reports about flights (especially for Purser)
- Ensure procedures and protocols are followed
- Coordinate with other crew members
